Clinical insight. Practical change.

Good protocols matter. What happens between patients matters just as much.

Hygiea is an independent infection-prevention advisory partner for dental practices in North Carolina. We connect written protocols with daily clinical workflows through observation, cleaning verification, waterline-program review, and practical systems development. Our purpose is to help dental leaders understand current performance, prioritize improvements, and sustain consistent execution.

Built from clinical experience

Founder Valecia McClain, RDH, brings together U.S. Army service, 18 years of dental hygiene experience, and systems thinking. SPICE-trained, she has served as an OSHA and Radiation Safety Officer, developed infection prevention and control programs, written standard operating procedures, and provided compliance mentorship. Her approach connects written protocols with the people, responsibilities, and workflows that shape daily practice.

With local roots in Fuquay-Varina, North Carolina, where she was born and raised, Valecia founded Hygiea to continue serving others—supporting dental teams, helping protect patients, and contributing to healthier communities locally and beyond.

The knowledge-action gap

Knowing a protocol and applying it consistently are different challenges. Hygiea looks at both. We observe workflows, review documentation, assess staff knowledge, and use testing where appropriate to identify priorities. Then we help the practice make practical changes.

Assess. Strengthen. Verify. Sustain.

Assess: Establish a clear picture of current practices, documentation, and cleaning performance.
Strengthen: Translate findings into defined responsibilities, workable procedures, and role-specific education for clinical teams and the practice’s environmental cleaning partners.

Verify: Reobserve workflows and repeat measurements to check whether corrective actions are working.
Sustain: Follow up, track progress, and reinforce improvements through refresher education.

Evidence with a clear purpose

A useful assessment should make the next step clear. Our reports connect observations and test results to priorities, recommended actions, responsible roles, and follow-up. We explain the limits of each method and distinguish cleaning verification from proof of sterility or the absence of pathogens.

A partner in daily practice

We advise dental owners, practice managers, and clinical teams seeking a documented baseline, practical system improvements, or ongoing verification. Every engagement has a defined scope and recommendations grounded in what we observe.

Trust is good. Verification is better.
